Overview [back to top]
Schooling means practice! DevonWood's Blue Ribbon Schooling Shows are low‐key events designed to create a safe and pressure‐free environment for horses and riders to rehearse their showing skills. Whether you’re riding Introductory Level or Grand Prix, the goal is to have a safe and fun outing with your horse!
Professionals are welcome to ride Hors Concours (HC) in the Blue Ribbon Schooling Shows. HC means your test will be judged and scored but will not be included in the class placings and will not receive a ribbon. (Additionally, when scores are submitted to local publications, HC rides will be omitted in such reports.)
Attire is casual, but don’t miss a great opportunity to practice your show turn out! Good turnout is considered a sign of respect for the judge. However, this is not a recognized show, so you may wear boots, paddock boots, half‐chaps, breeches, sweaters, vests, polo shirts or turtlenecks. Feel free to use brushing boots, polo wraps, and bell boots during your warm up and test. Braiding and coats are not required but are certainly welcome.
Blue Ribbon Schooling Shows are NOT recognized shows. DevonWood will allow your choice of equipment so long as it is safe. For our friends who jump: if you feel more comfortable in your jumping equipment, please feel free to ride in it during the show.
ASTM approved safety helmets are required for ALL riders, regardless of age (whether entered or not) whenever mounted on the DevonWood premises. There will be a fine of $100 per violation. All proceeds will be donated to the Courtney King‐Dye Trust. Also, for safety’s sake, smoking and dogs are not allowed on the premises.
These shows fill quickly! To ensure your entry requests are confirmed, it is best to enter as soon as the Web Entry Form page is made available. At the time of submission, every entry is given a digital date/time stamp. Entries are accepted on a first come, first serve method. It is the rider's responsibility to properly submit their entry form and document their submission attempt in the case that an error occurs in the processing sequence.
Please check your email for your show confirmation and access to ride times.
Show Services [back to top]
DevonWood is incredibly fortunate to have an outstanding videographer on-hand to capture your rides at this Blue Ribbon Schooling Show. Tory Kelly and her staff of Equine Video Productions will be at the show both days offering discounted services to you.
The benefits of having your ride recorded are invaluable as this will enable you to review your rides after the show and make improvements based on what you see and what feedback you get from the judge. EVP's DVD recordings of your ride are top quality and utilize some of the most current technology available. EVP has decades of experience recording horse and rider and we are tremendously appreciative that they support this event – the grassroots of our sport.
Please take a moment while you fill out the online entry form to sign-up to have your rides recorded.

Entry Process (Explained) [back to top]
As of January, 2011, DevonWood has elected to discontinue mail-based entries for the Blue Ribbon Schooling Show. In lieu of using the traditional mail format, we have switched to 100% web acceptance. In order to enter/register for these events, please locate the "Enter Show" button via one of the various menus located throughout the website. After completing and submitting the web entry form, you will immediately receive a confirmation e-mail from DevonWood indicating that your entry request has been received.
Within 1-2 business days, you will receive your official show confirmation letter via e-mail. At that time, you will also be provided with a link to make any changes necessary to your entry, as well as information necessary to pay your account bill. For payment information, please see the section marked "Payment Process."
Show Policies (Explained) [back to top]
Scratch: During competition, a rider may opt to scratch any or all of their assigned ride times, but does so at his/her expense. DevonWood does not refund scratched rides and reserves the right to fill scratched ride times without additional refund. Once a scratch request has been processed, it cannot be reversed. If the original rider wished to retain a scratched ride, he/she must pay an entry change fee, if applicable.
Vet-Out: Please refer to the Blue Ribbon Schooling Show section marked "Dates & Deadlines" for further information regarding refund policies. DevonWood follows the vet-out guidelines and policies used in standard recognized shows. The competition management reserves the right to modify or append such guidelines with additional facility policies at any time as listed within this prize list.
For an entry to be considered within the terms of a vet-out entry, you must prove that your horse is not in good health and/or unfit for travel to the location of the show. Each horse being considered for vet-out status must have their injury/sickness/status validated by a licensed veterinarian and have a document stating such claims transmitted via fax to 888.329.3932 prior to the competition start date. Entries that are forced to vet-out while on-site at the competition will not receive a refund. No entries will be given vet-out status once the competition has begun.
If the competition management has received the required documentation from the entrant's veterinarian, DevonWood will process a refund, if applicable, in accordance with the deadlines listed in the section marked "Dates & Deadlines" below. Once the deadline for a show withdraw has passed, an entrant may opt to vet-out, but will only receive the cost of stabling for refund (not including deposits, if applicable). Entrants who request to be granted vet-out status after the final withdraw deadline and prior to the beginning of the competition may request that their ride times be sold during the show, but will only be granted a refund if their ride assignment is purchased by an existing competitor. DevonWood will notify the original ride assignment owner if their ride time was purchased, and a refund will be processed in accordance with the refund policies of the event.
A vet-out entrant may opt to substitute their rider/horse combination with a new entry, provided that he/she pays any applicable change fees and other mandatory show fees. A substituted entry will retain the original entrant's ride assignments and stabling assignments. Additional changes to the substituted entry will incur a fee.
